Conclusion
The many forerunners we have examined, as well as my own experiments support the idea that stretchfilm might very well be the first popular and widespread form of hyperfilm.
Stretchfilm is not too difficult to create. Starting from a edited film sequence, the less important parts of the film are cut out and made into footnotes.
The resulting structure can, in the words of Nelson, "easily be made plain to a seven-year-old."
After these initial experiments, the stretchfilm model will be taken further in two directions. We will continue to develop this into a simple production template for home filmmakers, making DVD discs and Web delivery the end products. At the same time, cooperation arrangements have been made with two national media corporations, with the ambition to create prototype texts for news and narrative, and develop these into working Web prototypes.
