Matt Kirschenbaum reports the university of Maryland closed because of snow. We don't do that here. Norwegians are expected to cope with winter weather. I always draw laughs when I tell the story about when Brown University was closed for two days because the weather forecast said a snowstorm was underway. There never was any snow.
Norwegians have snow tires, and they plow as soon as it starts to snow. But when there's a heavy snowfall just before the morning rush hour, there's little they can do.
It snowed this morning, and I used an extra hour getting to work. I found myself missing Rhode Island, where everyone is satisfied with an extra day off.
