I took the train to Hamar on tuesday, as I was speaking to the Norwegian Media Authority. The sun was shining from a pale blue sky, and the landscape around Mjøsa (Norway's largest lake) outside the train window was astounding.
I listened to music with a new pair of silencing ear phones from Etymotic. It was fantastic. All the train noise was silenced, and I could listen to crystal clear music. (In fact, I noticed for the first time a tiny hiss from the master tape in Hopkinson Smith's fantastic recording of E. Gaultier's lute music.) The ear phones were recommended to me from Arnte the sound expert, who told me they silence air plane noise equally well.
The Etymotics really turned my train ride into one of those pleasant "meetings with yourself" that you read about in the train ads. A good seat, the weather, the view, the silence, the music. Ahhh.
