Today's research:
From home, with VPN to the university, I searched through the ACM library for a few concepts, downloaded full-text pdfs of the papers, then used the search tool in Preview to find the relevant passages. Read those, skimmed the rest of the most relevant papers. Searched interesting references in ACM and other digital libraries, found more papers to download.
Being a scholar in the age of computers and Internet may not have the aura of leather binding, book dust, and silent old buildings, but it is way easier!
In between, as I got ideas, I sketched the outline of my paper in Tinderbox.
