Pappaperm: the rules

When a baby is born, the parents are entitled by law to a total of 42 weeks of leave on full salary (up to a maximum amount, naturally) or 48 weeks on 80% pay. The State reimburses your employer for the costs.

The employer must allow it, and has to offer you your job back or a similar job when you return.

The parents may split the 48 weeks between them in any way, even to the point where they split each day in half. The only rule is that the mother has to begin by having three weeks off before the due birth date, and that minimum four weeks are reserved for daddy.

Still, a large number of men do not take "daddy-leave," but more and more are waking up and understanding that your family, not your boss is where your loyalty should be.

Oh, and the couple can't be off together. It's so one can go to work when the other is home with the kid.
