The reason it's been quiet around here is that we enjoyed a vacation in Spain last week. Just like American seniors move to Florida, retired north Europeans migrate to Spain for the winter. Mona's parents have bought an apartment in one of the many urbanicationes in Spain's Costa Blanca region. An urbanication is a new development, a brand new village of similar white or beige plastered apartment buildings and condos, often with swimming pools and a tiny commercial center attached, and with the beach a few minutes away by car. At Orihuela Costa, where we were, there are a few thousand Norwegians, but they are totally outnumbered by the British. I saw more British pubs than Spanish restaurants.
The area south of Torrevieja is hardly the most exciting part of Spain, but the weather was really pleasant, with 25 Celsius in both air and water. Although both the kids and I came down with severe colds and fever, we were able to enjoy the beach, the pool, and the market, and generally had a relaxing and nice week. 1,50 Euros for an OK bottle of table wine is also appreaciated by a Norwegian!
Less relaxing were the 220 e-mails that waited for me when we came back, but the spam filter took care of 99 of them, thankfully.
