a thought on link texts

Did you notice how clumsy I linked in the previous post? I did

Mark left a wonderful comment the other day, suggesting to keep my to do list in Tinderbox just a simple map, not the big Getting Things Done engine.

When you have only read 'a wonderful comment' you don't really know what to get from the link. In the next part of the sentence, I describe what's in the comment. Mouse-happy clickers will miss that description when they jump for the link. More cautious clickers will perhaps wait, read the description, and then move back to the link. I should have done:

Mark left a wonderful comment the other day, suggesting to keep my to do list in Tinderbox just a simple map, not the big Getting Things Done engine.

There is good linking and bad linking, but I am hard put to find the general rules.
