Radio reports that unless almost all the 250,000 early votes in Ohio are for Kerry, Bush is re-elected.
I feel sorry for the United States. Not for electing Bush: although I strongly disagree with his decisions on Iraq and Kyoto and some others, and I am surprised by his apparent lack of concern for human rights, I realize that I can't get the full picture of North American politics from here. U.S. citizens are capable of deciding for themselves.
But I feel sorry for a country that is split so deeply down the middle. Many people I know and care about are among the half that will be very sorry today, and frightened about the outlook for the future.
A responsible president in this situation would realize that his mandate is contested, and govern accordingly.
